A Gentleman, called George Stringer of Whitfield (1767-1839), wearing blue coat with black collar, white waistcoat and tied cravat, his hair powdered and worn en queue with a black ribbon bow. Gold frame, the reverse glazed to reveal seed pearl monograms MAS and LS on plaited hair. Oval, 75mm ( 2 15/16in) high Provenance: Mrs. Daphne Foskett
