Nerud's work attained a first high point between 1927 and 1933. His birthplace, to which he returned to stay in 1929 had always been a source of inspiration at that time. Portraiture was still his forte, yet now he began to concentrate more on views of Simbach. Our work is a particularly fine example of Nerud's masterly and subtle handling of colour. The subdued palette convincingly conveys a brooding evening mood while the houses seem to be suffused with an unreal glow and throbbing with life. [ME] In good condition.
