Item Overview

Description

JOSEF SECHÉ (1880-1948)
Serenissimus Akademie.
The Republic of Venice the Italian state which existed from the 8th century until the 18th century was often referred to as 'Serenissima,' or 'The Serene Republic.' And its Doge the chief magistrate and leader of Venice was known as "Serenissimus," or 'Serene Highness.' Also the HSH acronym 'His' or Her' Serene Highness' also appeared before the princely titles of members of German ruling families. And what precisely does this information have to do with the event being advertised in this Seché nee Sechehaye poster? In all honesty, it's difficult to say seeing as no record of the 'Serenissimus Akademie' or the poster executed to promote it seems to exist. However, gauging from the haughty, haut couture attitude of the poster's sous-umbrella pairing, we're inclined to speculate that a royal time was had by all in attendance.
