An example of this model cast by the Pinedo foundry was offered for sale at Catherine Charbonneaux, Paris, May 15, 2000, lot 219. The present example was cast by Alfred Daubrée, who established a foundry in 1850 at 85 Rue Montmartre, Paris, before moving to 48 Boulevard de Strasbourg in 1860 where he would have cast this piece. He also edited numerous bronzes by Fratin. Following his participation in the Exposition Universelle in 1867, his foundry became one of the most renowned in Paris.
