Notes

J. C. Coll was a master of pen and ink and had he not died so young, he would likely have been recognized as one of the great illustrators of his generation. Among the many artists he influenced was John R. Neill, the illustrator of the Oz Books. They briefly shared a studio, and Coll designed Neill's bookplate. Coll's elegant line and generous use of light recall the work of the famous Spanish illustrator Daniel Virge.
