Joseph Knight, R.A, R.C.A (British 1837 - 1909). 'The Ending of a Summer Day', large oil on canvas mounted on board of a hilltop with sheep, the summit in sunshine, the foot of the hill in shadow, signed lower right, in gilt frame, 49in by 33in. *** This painting was Exhibited at the Brussels International Exhibition in 1897, No 24 (see label verso), purchased Sotheby's Belgravia, September 1978, Lot 80. Joseph Knight exhibited at the R.A 1861 - 1908, and was the father of Clara Knight. His painting entitled 'A Tidal River' was purchased by the Tate Gallery in 1977.
