Description

Large oblong folio bound in black morocco and gilt lettered 'Ceylon' on the upper cover. Containing 78 albumen prints, the majority mounted one to a page, with two pages of 5 images and several mounted 2 to a page. Many individually credited to W.L.H. Skeen & Co. or to Lawton.

measurements note various sizes, most approx. 21.5 x 28.5 cm (8½ x 11¼ in.) or 14 x 20 cm (5½ x 7 7/8 in.) or the reverse

Notes

Subjects include landscape views, various studies of people, and architecture both old and new. Notable among these are a splendid series of views of architectural ruins either credited to or ascribable to Joseph Lawton, who is known to have left Ceylon in 1872.
