Description

Joseph Sloan (b.1940) THE EDGE, A STUDY, circa 1980s signed and inscribed beneath base bronze, artist's proof, 1 of 4 19 by 15 by 13cm., 7.5 by 6 by 5.25in. Created in the early 1980s, when Adam Clayton of U2 gave the artist studio facilities at his home in Rathfarnham, Dublin. Cast in 2007 at the Barthélémy foundry, France, in an edition of five plus four artist's proofs, of which this is one. With a certificate of authenticity from the artist. Joseph Sloan was born in Warrenpoint, Co. Down. He worked initially in the theatre, before taking up art, particularly sculpture and book illustration. He has had one and two man shows with the Kilcock Gallery and James Gallery, Dublin, Grant Fine Art, Newcastle and the Barbara Stanley Gallery, London. He exhibits regularly at the RHA and various arts festivals such as the Kilkenny Festival, where he was named best sculptor in 1990. His work is included in the collections of the Dublin City Gallery the Hugh Lane, OPW, AIB, Bank of Ireland, Ulster Television and many others.
