Description

Josie Van Gent Edell (1921-2006) Limited Edition Lithograph "On South Battery". Professionally framed and double matted. In Frame measures 23 1/4"x28"1/4"x1". Weight 8 pds. She was born in Amsterdam and spent her youth in France, Spain and South Africa. She was a Cum Laude graduate of Kunstoefening, Amheim and was awarded a five-year scholarship by Queen Wilhelmina. She completed her BA and MA degrees at the Academy of The Hague and received a second, five-year scholarship that enabled her to travel and work with other accomplished artists throughout Europe.In the late 1960's , Edell moved to Charleston, South Carolina where she quickly gained recognition for her watercolors of historic Charleston architecture and the colorful natives of the low country. She operated her own gallery on the corner of Queen and State Streets in Charleston and was the recipient of numerous awards for her work in the South Carolina Watercolor Society and Charleston Artist Guild.
