408 pp. Illustrated with a copper-engraved plate showing the basaltic formations on the Columbia River; lacks the folding frontispiece map of the Oregon Territory. 7 1/2 x4 3/4, original dark brown cloth, spine lettered in gilt. Third Edition.

Early accounts of explorations in the Oregon Territory in the mid-1830's. Samuel Parker's primary purpose of this expedition, as stated in his preface, was "to become acquainted with the situation of the remote Indian tribes, and their disposition in regard to the geography of the country...". According to Graff "Parker accompanied a fur-trading party, in 1835, from Council Bluffs to Walla Walla" - Graff 3194; Field 1175; Howes P89; Sabin 58729; Smith 7896.

Cloth spine nearly detached, chips and tears to spine and ends, corners showing, soiling, extremities rubbed, faint stain to lower front cover; hinges cracked with later blue cloth tape lifting, light foxing, bookplate from the Private Library of Ira G. Ward of Camden, Indiana; about good.
