Description

JULIA BEATRICE HOW (BRITISH,1867-1932) A set of six nude studies Charcoal/Pencil on paper, the largest 55 x 41cm (6) Julia Beatrice How was born in 1867 in Bideford, Devon. She studied in Paris at the Académie Delacluse; where she was influenced by Lucien Simon and Carrière. How lived for most of her life in France, though she visited England every year. She primarily painted studies of women with babies, also occasional nudes and flowers. Exhibited at the Paris Salon, in the Galerie Georges Petit, the Galerie Armand Drouant, etc. Memorial exhibition at the New Burlington Galleries 1935, which afterwards toured Manchester and other provincial cities.
