Utilizing the auspicious symbol of the pig, Ponmany finds subject matter foraging in the detritus, gutters and alleyways of everyday Indian life. His inspiration is derived from snapshots of Mumbai with its many inhabitants and in common with this, the artist magnifies the instantaneous moments often overlooked by the passerby. Impregnating his surfaces with plastic, resin, printer's ink, salt and holographic pigment here results in a picture plane that constantly shifts with the change of light and position of the viewer, showing the pigs in minute yet symbolic detail. Recalling the temporality of life and the ubiquity of searching, the artist's polychromatic images are as fleeting as the moments they seek to represent.
