Reeds. 1928. Gouache on vellum. Laid down on card. 50,5 x 71cm. Signed and dated lower right: A. Kaigorodoff/ 28. Verso inscribed: Nr. 3/ 'Das Schilf'/ AKaigorodoff. Framed.

Kaigrodov completed his studies at the St. Petersburg Art Academy under landscape painter Archip Ivanovic Kuindzhi. He traveled for his secondary studies between 1902 and 1905 to Munich and Paris. After returning home he exhibited at the academy and worked together with the independent artists of the "Kuindzhi society" founded in 1909. In 1918 he settled in Estonia where he was very active in the circle of immigrant artists, by giving lessons as well as organising exhibitions. In 1945 near Salzburg, he died, on a flight from the Soviet army.
