Item Overview

Description

Color and gold on silk. Japan, 17th - 18th centuryThis is a truly fine painting, well composed in colors and mounting. We are shown the fairy Seiobo (Chinese: Xiwangmu), here given to the finest detail on a silk ground with delicate head and face and holding peaches in her hands. Even her long attire with golden patterns is painted with great accuracy, the colors tastefully combined. The brocade framing is set with blooms and gold. Signed to the lower left CHIKANOBU hitsu 周信筆 (has painted it), sealed KANO CHIKANOBU 狩野周信. Wood rollers, some wear to brocade edges, with wooden case. A similar example of a Seiobo by Chikanobu is exhibited in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.PAINTING 81,7 x 32 CM, SCROL L162 x 42,5 CMFrom a German private collection
