Description

The excellent post impressionist painting circa 1910-1915 depicting a jester serenading a beautiful young woman leaning out of a blue painted door in early summer. The piece within original frame, signed lower left and with name plaque. 36" x 38" total, image size 27" x 29". In untouched estate condition, stretchers have loosened some, losses to paper on verso, the painting itself in good condition, no noted damage, losses, or alterations. 

Provenance: The painting done in the height of Anderson's career & was purchased shortly after it's creation by prominent businessman R.J. Funkhowser (1885-1965), and eventually gifted to his lifelong secretary Thelma Hardy, from there by descent through family. This work of art exhibited with at least two corresponding publications circa 1915/1916 to include the Illustrated catalogue of the post-exposition exhibition in the Department of Fine Arts, Panama-Pacific International Exposition, San Francisco, California, January first to May first, nineteen hundred and sixteen (page 54), and The Buffalo Fine Arts Academy/Albright Art Gallery Tenth Annual Exhibition of selected paintings by American Artists (page 9). Anderson's works of art reside in museums such as the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Metropolitan Art Museum, Museum of Fine Arts Boston and more.

After payment for lots has been received, we will package your item for shipping and you will receive a 2nd invoice with shipping and handling charges added to it and your credit card on file with us will be charged a 2nd time for the Shipping & Handling charges. Please note objects that do not fit into a small, medium, or large USPS flat rate box will be packaged and shipped via a local UPS store affiliate, at the buyer's full expense via UPS ground unless otherwise specified. All Payments by cashier's check over $500 from out of state will require a bank letter of credit or will be held for 2 weeks. Please note shipping from Alaska can be costly and while we do our best to minimize costs, it is the sole responsibility of the buyer to cover any and all costs associated with shipping regardless of expense. Alaskan ivory will not be shipped outside of the United States, international buyers may bid on ivory items but must plan to pick up ivory pieces in the state of Alaska within the pick-up hours for each auction. Ammunition cannot be shipped out of state of Alaska, Firearms must be shipped to a Federal Firearms License holder (FFL).

Shipping will be handled by Alaska Premier Auctions & Appraisals and our 3rd Party Shipping Team. Charges will include the cost of shipping and packaging supplies as well as a modest handling fee that is roughly a 15% mark-up of the total packaging material and shipping charges from our 3rd party shipping partner. Items will be combined to reduce shipping costs to the greatest extent possible while maintaining the safety of the items within the package. All purchases with a combined value over $100.00 will require insurance and signature confirmation which will be paid by the buyer. While we try to ship all items within the first week after the auction closes, all purchases will be shipped within 10 business days of payment. Your credit card will be charged once for your items and then a second time for your shipping & handling fee. There are handling and material costs associated with your shipping total. Please be aware that while we try to keep costs to an absolute minimum for you, we cannot ship your items for free. We use new supplies, bubble wrap, boxes, and packing materials. All property is sold "AS IS", and ALL SALES ARE FINAL. Property is open to thorough public inspection by appointment only. It is the Bidder's responsibility to determine condition, age, genuineness, value or any other determining factor. In no event shall Alaska Premier Auctions and Appraisals be held responsible for having made or implied any warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. Bidder shall be the sole judge of value and authenticity. WARRANTIES OF OWNER. The owner warrants that he is the owner of listed items and has merchantable title to the items of personal property offered for sale and hereby grants to the Auctioneer the right to convey a merchantable title to such property to such buyers as may be successful at sale time. The Owner/representative guarantees clear title, and that liens on the listed property be so stated whereby arrangements will be made so that clear title will be issued to the purchaser. In the event Owner is unable to clear title, Owner will be liable for any pre-sale expenses incurred by the Auctioneer, and a Withdrawal fee.

Bidder acknowledges and understands that this service may or may not function correctly the day of the auction. Under no circumstances shall Bidder have any kind of claim against Alaska Premier Auctions and Appraisals LLC or anyone else if the Internet service fails to work correctly before or during the timed online auction. Alaska Premier Auctions and Appraisals LLC will not be responsible for any missed bids from any source. Internet bidders who desire to make certain their bids are acknowledged should use the website feature and leave their maximum bid 24 hours before the auction ends. Pick up times will be from 4pm-6pm on Sunday, May 26th, 10a-6p on Monday, May 27th and 9am-6pm Tuesday, May 28th.Be prepared to present your email invoice receipt of purchase and your photo ID. Please call 907-570-7050 for more questions regarding pick-up.

We appreciate all of our bidders both local and out of the area but we are an auction company and not a storage facility. If items are not collected or shipping is not arranged by 6 pm on 5/28/19 they are at risk of being disposed of or donated to charity and the purchaser will lose their money that they bid on the item. If there is an arrangement with the seller to store items past the pick-up date, it will be on a case by case basis and a $25 per day storage fee will be applied per lot. If we have not received any form of communication or direction from the buyer on when they will collect their winning lots then we will ship them to the address we have on file for the buyer and charge the buyer for all shipping and handling fees.

If you wish to pay when you pick up, use PayPal, or use another method of payment like cash or cashier's check, we must be contacted by 24 hours before the auction ends. NO EXCEPTIONS. PLEASE MAKE SURE ALL OF YOUR INFORMATION INCLUDING YOUR CREDIT CARD, ADDRESS, EMAIL, AND PHONE NUMBERS ON FILE WITH US IS CORRECT. If you have an old/unusable/declined credit card you will be charged an additional $15 on your invoice for a declined card. ONCE AGAIN, NO EXCEPTIONS!! Please understand if your credit card is declined, we will open a dispute within 24 hours, if your invoice is not paid within 7 days a dispute will be opened regardless of any communication between you and our company. Cashier's Checks over $500 must be pre-approved by the Auctioneer, No Personal, Out of State or Business checks will be accepted. CASHIER'S CHECKS ONLY IF SPECIFICALLY ARRANGED AND PRE-APPROVED WITH AUCTIONEER. If for any reason you decide not to pay your invoice in a timely manner you will be banned from any future bidding on any future auctions. This will affect your ability to bid on any other current auctions or future auctions with us.

Firearms -
Background Checks and Final Sales:
Anyone that bids on firearms must be of legal age to do so. Highest bidders of firearms must be able to pass a federal background check and legally purchase firearms. All sales of firearms will not be considered final until the background check is successfully passed by the highest bidder. In the case that the background check comes back unapproved then the bidder will be refunded the hammer price of the firearm(s) but will forfeit the buyer's premium and any additional fees that were due in the processing of their unsuccessful transaction. The firearm will be kept by the auction company and sold to the back-up bidder or re-sold at a future auction. Bidders that knowingly bid on firearms when they cannot pass a background check or legally possess a firearm risk being banned from any and all future auctions with our auction company.

Governing Law and Venue. This agreement is governed by and construed in compliance with the domestic laws of the State of Alaska without giving effect to any choice-of-law or conflict-of-law provision or rule (whether of the State of Alaska or of any other jurisdiction) that would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction except the State of Alaska. All disputes related to this agreement shall be resolved in a court of law located in Anchorage, Alaska.
