Widely admired for her lyrical images, Kawauchi transforms the ordinary into dream-like photographs, tinged with nostalgia and melancholy. In a 2006 interview, she explains: 'the eyes, the ears is about what can be captured with our five senses; not only what the eyes see, but also what the ear hears and the skin touches.' Kawauchi is the 2002 recipient of Japan's prestigious Kimura Ihee Award and this year's recipient of ICP's Infinity Award for Art.
