Item Overview

Description

Typed Letter Signed ("John Kennedy"), 1 p, 4to, Washington, DC, May 27, 1957, to Carl Haverlin, on U.S. Senate letterhead, regarding a bronze statue of Daniel Webster, with autograph postscript, perforations to upper left corner and pencil docket, otherwise fine; with typed carbon of Haverlin's correspondence.

Kennedy signs and inscribes this letter to Carl Haverlin, president of music industry giant BMI, politely declining the donation of a bronze of Daniel Webster: "It was provided in the resolution for the selection of the five outstanding Senators that their portraits, instead of statues, should be placed in the Senate Reception Room." Kennedy adds in postscript: "The committee wishes me to thank you on their behalf for your generous thought."
