Description

227. FRANCIS SCOTT KEY (1779-1843) American lawyer and poet who, inspired by Americans' tenacity during the British bombardment of Fort McHenry, wrote they lyrics to what was to become our nation anthem, "The Star Spangled Banner". Scarce A.D.S. "F. S. Key", 2pp. legal folio, George Town, July 10, 1825. In part: "...Mr. English will lay before you an agreement, signed in behalf of all the Banks interested in the attachment cases against Capt. Marbury as Garnishee of Fitzhugh, except this Institution. The case has been carried up again to the Supreme Court, after one decision in our favor...Capt. Marbury consented to pay the different Banks...I was to receive 500$ in case of success & nothing if we failed..." Narrow, light dampstain in left margin, with three old archival tape repairs thereat three letters of text, else very good with a large, bold signature. $700-900
