Original Mid Century Oil on Canvas by Kid Kosalwat (1917-1988). Rural scene, signed lower right. Measures 18.25"x28.75"x1.50". Weight 4 pds. Kid Kosalwat was born in 1917 in Srisaket Province, Northeast Thailand. He went to Bangkok in 1936 where he studied at Silpakorn University for four years and then a year at Poh Chang College of Arts and Crafts. At one time, he was president of the Thai Fine Arts Association and an art instructor at Poh Chang College of Arts and Crafts in Bangkok, Thailand. Kid Kosalwat began garnering art awards in grade school in Si Sa Ket Province. By the time he came to Bangkok and enrolled in what is now Silpakorn University, his remarkable talent caught the eye of his teacher, Mr. Feroci (Prof. Silpa Bhirasri), the Italian founder of the university. Art, for Kid, was a never-ending source of happiness and fun. His drawings and numerous illustrations for magazines and children’s readers bear his trademark of simplicity and care. Well know by mid century collectors for his wonderful paintings of rural Thailand.
