Notes

Takada began working in photography in 1907. By 1914 he was judging photographic contests and was one of the most prominent photographic exhibitors of the pre-war period and was responsible for the formation of the Nagoya Camera Club in 1924 and a key member of the editorial staff of Cameraman Magazine in 1930s. Like his contemporaries his work holds strong cubist tendencies. After the war he, like many others moved away from documentation and reportage focusing on personal artistic subject matter of the female form. It is these works which are seen as a fore runner to contemporary Japanese photography. All printed on large format paper (he was lucky enough to live near an enlarging laboratory) his nudes take on a sculptural subliminal form.??

Takada’s work is included in the collection of the Yokohama (Minicipal) Museum of Art. All the works presented here for sale by Minayoshi Takada are believed to be unique.
