Notes

Königsbrunn (1823-1907) studied law in Graz and Vienna and took private drawing lessons with Josef Kuwasseg. Realising that art was his passion, he went to Munich in 1848 where he studied with Leopold Rottmann and copied landscapes of Eduard Schleich. In late 1852 he travelled to Ceylon with Ritter von Friedau and the zoologist L.K. Schmarda, staying for ten months. After his return to Graz Königsbrunn intended to publish his drawings in a book, but the work never came to light. The drawings depict: The village of Galle; A view on the banks of Kalu Ganga river; and The jungle at Pupalawa.
