Brad Kahlhamer: Yes, definitely. It's all about what I call the third place. I'm adopted, so there was another life available to me, which might have been on a reservation or with my natural parents, whom I've yet to find. Then there's the life that I've lived, which is the adopted life. The third life is melding these first two lives with lots of fantasy, and that's what many of my paintings are about.
