Lot 80: L80 VINTAGE FRAMED LARGE ANTIQUE SOUTHERN BELLE LITHOGRAPH ERIC CORRENS

The Southern Belle is a lithograph by Erich Correns who was a German painter during the 19th century. German artist Erich Correns (1821-1877). Southern Belle is a standing portrait study of the coloratura soprano Jenny Lind (Madam Johanna Maria Lind Goldschmidt painted circa 1855, when she was 35 years old. She is wearing a beige satin off-the-shoulder, pouf-sleeved, full skirted formal gown with a floral bouquet at the bodice. She is wearing her famous serpent bracelet, and a golden locket around her neck. Correns, one of the romantic painters of the early part of last century, made portrait lithographs after the art of original lithography was invented. His keen draftsmanship is revealed in this dignified composition. The original hangs in the Municipal Gallery of Munich where it is one of the main attractions. Erich Correns died at the city of Munich in 1877. The back label reads Genuine Oil = Art Portraits from B.A.P. Co., Chicago. Larger size at 32" L x 25"W x 1 1/2 "Deep. Solid Wood Gilt Frame.
