Rare c. 1930 Etching "La Mise a Mort (El Matador)" by Frederick Halpern (1909 -?) hand signed and numbered in pencil by Halpern. It is numbered 2/25. In frame measures 15"x15"x1/2". Weight 2 pds 11 oz. PROVENANCE: A Private Charleston SC Estate. A well known early 20th artist and writer, Frederick Halpern studied painting and printmaking techniques in both Vienna and Paris. Well travelled, he moved to live in Australia in the early 1950’s but also visited New Zealand, Java, Bali and other sites. As an original etcher, Frederick Halpern was gifted in both colour and black and white techniques. He was known to print one or two impressions of each of his works of graphic art before publishing his regular editions in twenty-five impressions or less. Today his etchings and engravings are included in many Australian public and private collections, including that of the National Gallery of Australia.
