Les quatre putti représentés dans ces deux oeuvres en bronze à patine
brun nuancé s'accompagnent de trois figures symbolisant le Feu (salamandre), la Terre (lion) et l'Eau (dauphin). La qualité de fonte et de
ciselure de ces groupes est ici parfaitement mise en valeur par les bases
plaquées d'ébène richement ornées sur chacune des faces de bronzes
ciselés et dorés. Une paire de sculptures similaires, avec des socles en bronze doré, était conservée dans l'ancienne collection Wildenstein. Issu de la grande tradition des petits bronzes allégoriques de la
Renaissance, ce très beau travail est à rapprocher de l'OEuvre du sculpteur Francesco Ladatte, notamment de la série des Quatre Saisons réalisée pour Charles Emmanuel II de Savoie pour orner la fontaine du Palais Royal à Turin. Les enfants grandeur nature sont en train de s'amuser avec des fruits ou des oiseaux symbolisant le Printemps et l'Automne et aujourd'hui conservés au Metropolitan Museum de New York .
Né dans le Piémont, Ladatte reçut une formation de sculpteur à Rome avant de s'installer à Paris en 1734. Son morceau de réception à l'Académie en 1741 était un marbre représentant Judith. Il fut également l'auteur de la statue de Louis XV à Rouen et participa au décor du mausolée du Cardinal de Fleury. De retour à Turin dans les années 1745 et 1750, il travailla pour Charles Emmanuel III de Savoie et réalisa de grands groupes en bronze témoignant de ses grandes qualités de fondeur et de ciseleur.

Purchasers pay in addition to the hammer price, a buyer's premium from 0 to e 500 000:
25,20% (21 % + VAT).
For amounts superior to e 500 000: 19% (15,83% + VAT).
Lots from outside the EEC: (indentified by an*). In addition to the commissions and taxes indicated above, an additional import VAT will be charged (7% of the hammer price, 20% for jewelry).
For any member of the EEC, non assembled stones are liable to VAT 20%.
The auctioneer is bound by the indications in the catalogue, modified only by eventual announcements made at the time of the sale noted into the legal records thereof. Prospective bidders should inspect the property before bidding to determine its condition, size, and wether or not it has been repaired, restored or repainted. Exhibitions prior to the sale at Marc-Arthur Kohn or on the sale point permits buyers to establish the condition of the works offered for sale, and therefore no claims will be accepted after the fall of the hammer. BIDS
