Landscape with Customs station
Oil/canvas, 49,5 x 60,5 cm, lo. ri. monogr. FB, min. rest. - Prov.: Archduke Friedrich Franz II of Mecklenburg-Schwerin; Munich private collection. The painting is accompanied by a photo with a note that it belongs to the Archduke of Mecklenburg. - The painting is probably from the period 1825-36, when the artist lived in Munich. At that time Germany consisted of countless small states which all collected their own duties. In a manner evocative of Spitzweg Benucci illustrates a provincial Bavarian idyll. - Italian painter, pupil of G. A. Wallis, 1825-36 he lived a. worked in Munich, where he exhibited regularly in the Kunstverein, thereafter he moved to Milan. Since then he mainly painted landscapes from South Italy, Sicily a. North Africa, but also from Malta a. Gibraltar. - Lit.: Saur, Thieme-Becker.
