Notes

No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 15% will be added to the buyer's premium which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis.
A copy after a drawing by Thomas Wyck, which is listed by Bernhard Schnackenburg in his catalogue Adriaen van Ostade, Isack van Ostade: Zeichnungen und Aquarelle, Hamburg, 1981, I, p. 221, no. F 131. There are several small differences between the drawing by Wyck and the present lot, notably the greater precision and detail of the present drawing, which is datable to the early 18th Century. There is no reason to doubt the old attribution on the mount to Laurens Scherm, a pupil of the late 17th-Century engraver Romeyn de Hooghe.

We are grateful to Dr Schnackenburg for his assistance in preparing this catalogue note.
