Lawrie Williamson (1932-), 'Shrimpers No. 2', signed and dated '91, titled and inscribed on verso, oil on canvas, 39.5 x 49.5cm.; 15.5 x 19.5in. * Educated in Derbyshire, Williamson became a Major Exhibitioner at 16; he studied at Nottingham College of Art and Nottingham University and at the Academie des Beaux-Arts, Paris; portraiture with Arthur Spooner, printmaking with S.W. Hayter and sketched with L.S.Lowry. Exhibitions included Catto, Portland, Richard Hagen in Broadway and Castle Ashby Gallery. In 1992 Williamson won the Cornelissen prize at R.O.I. for outstanding work; Stanley Grimm prize in 1993 at R.O.I. for the most popular painting and in 1994 he had his first show at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists.
