„LI LU MING'', P107. Xin Dong Cheng Publishing House,
2006.
''Along its history, contemporary art has produced so many
important pieces that public taste has become trivialized''
——A declaration recently made by Li Luming to the journalist
interviewing him. In my opinion this is a judgment that
perfectly describes the reality of the past fifteen years. Li
Luming became known in the eighties and nineties for his
series Planned Vegetation ad Chinese Hand, which served
to have him considered by the critics as a representative of
the ''new image'' and ''Gaudy Art'', raising him to the highest
ranks of contemporary Chinese art. Since the turn of the
century, the visual expressive mode of the Mao Zedong era
has been the focus of his attention, a deep interest which
he manifests through his practice of event-based art. His
''Study Sessions'' for example, which took place in 2000 on
the subject of „In Service of the People and Combating
Imperialism''. At the very same time, he was creating "Days
Above the Clouds" and Portraits of the Seventies. This artistic
''triathlon'' carried him to new heights.
