The distinctive handling of elements of the present painting, particulalry the post and rail fence and gate, can be compared to similar features in Lionel Constable's An Old Barn (Mellon Collection), A Bridge on the Mole (Philadelphia). The handling of the trees, as well as the hooked rushes in the foreground, are equally characteristic of the artist's style.
