(Lower joint with short split at head, edges lightly rubbed and bumped). Provenance : Silverlock (bookplate). FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE. PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed on front free endpaper, "Revd D. G. Watt. With kindest salutations of his affectionate friend David Livingstone. London 28th October 1857". With a letter from D. G. Watt addressed to Livingstone at Albermarle Street, London, dated 6 November 1857, thanking him (Livingstone) for his "kind memorial in the form of your book" and stating he "was glad to see your likeness; and my bairns have been feasting themselves on the other pictures".
