This painting is Lolek's mature work from the period which was marked by his interest in Czech landscape. The main part of the painting is the land with its high horizon. Geological structures and the vegetation are rendered with wide hatching which underlines the dramatic character of the scene. The landscape is seen in full light and rendered in bright colours. Czech painter, illustrator and graphic artist, he studied under professor Marak at the Prague Academy of Arts, he was a follower of the Neoimpressionist stream in Czech landscape painting. He was influenced by J. Uprka, F. Kavan and A. Hudecek. In the early 1920s he produced paintings of forests in line with the contemporary demand for this genre. His vivid paintings from the inter-war period contributed to the development of modern Czech landscape painting. See T 2/44, V 3/255, TB 23/337, B 6/720, NECVU 1/456.
