Acquired directly from the artist

Born in New York's Lower East Side and a prominent member of the Photo League in the 1940s, Lou Bernstein regarded Coney Island as an important touchstone for his very individual photographs. Lot 411 is a wonderful example of Bernstein's goal - to create contrasts of 'light and dark, rest and motion, simplicity and complexity...' Vintage prints of this image are extraordinarily rare. This one, flush-mounted, was created for exhibition.
