Property from the Estate of Lou Bernstein

Known as "the photographer''s photographer", Lou Bernstein was a charter member of The Photo League in New York, active from 1936 through the early 1950s. Bernstein, a highly recognized, independent photographic artist, taught at The Phoenix School of Design, New York, and at Cooper Union, New York. Two of his works were included in Edward Steichen''s masterpiece, "The Family of Man" exhibition in 1955 and ten of his works were acquired for Steichen''s own permanent collection. His work can be found in many permanent collections, including The Museum of Modern Art, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas, The International Center of Photography, New York, The Center for Creative Photography, Tucson, Arizona, The Jewish Museum, New York, The Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus, Ohio, The Spencer Museum of Art, Lawrence, Kansas and The Museum Chateau de Clervaux.
