Portrait of a girl, small full-length, seated on the steps of a terrace, a formal garden beyond signed and dated 'L.F.G. van der Puyl P T 1784.' (lower center) oil on panel 123/4 x 103/4 in. (32.4 x 27.3 cm.) PROVENANCE with Frans Buffa and Sons, Amsterdam. Mr. and Mrs. Allan C. Balch, by whom bequeathed to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Sotheby's, Los Angeles, 7 November 1977, lot 183. NOTES The reverse of the panel affixed with a letter from Cornelis Hofstede de Groot, dated August 1920, confirming the attribution.
