Louis Slobodkin (American, 1903-1975) Abe Lincoln, Rail Joiner, ca. 1939; Bronze; Signed "L.SLOBODKIN"; 8 1/2" high; Literature: Morgan, Theodora. "A. Lincoln - Most Sculpted American," Sculpture Review, Winter 1984-85 (another example); Note: This sculpture was originally created for the national competition for the decoration of the Federal Building at the New York World's Fair. The jury requested a half-scale model, which was enlarged for exhibition at the fair. The U.S. Secretary of Treasury also had one made in bronze for the building of the United States Department of the Interior in Washington, D.C., dedicated in 1940.
