Pershing, Louise (American, 1904-1986) Seated Figure oil on masonite 24 x 16 inches Louise Pershing (1904-1986) She lived in New Hope, Dermont and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She studied at the PAFA; Carnegie-Mellon University; University of Pittsburgh, with Philip Elliot; also with Hans Hoffman; Alexander Kostelow; G. Romanoglie. She exhibited at the Pittsburgh Art Association, (1930-72), (12 prizes); Salons of America, 193, 34; PAFA, 1934-36, 1939, 1964; NAWA, 1936, (prize); Wichita Museum, 1936, (prize); Carnegie Institute, 1931 (prize), 1932 (prize), 1937, 1942 (solo); 1943-1949 (Painting in the US), 1950;She exhibited at many other Academies and Universities. She was the first owner of a private exhibition gallery in Pittsburgh- Studio 130 on Bellfield Avenue. She also was the director of the New Hope, Pennsylvania Progressive Gallery from 1953-55.
