The canvas has been relined and as a result the paint surface has been pressed. The paint surface is dirty. The stronger pigments, particularly the reds, remain bold. There are some small discoloured retouchings in the background around the margins. Inspection under ultraviolet light shows scattered retouching s to the craquelure throughout, but particularly within the middle band of the picture, where the pigments are lighter in colour. There is a 5 cm. high band of retouching almost the entire way along the lower margin. There has been restrengthening to the clothing of the man second from the left, and to two figures in the centre. This lot is offered in a heavy carved and gilded wood frame, with parts painted green, in very good condition.
