Herrlein' (lower centre) oil on copper 20½ x 27¾ in. (52 x 70.5 cm.)

This picture depicts Luigi Vittorio di Savoia-Carignano, 4th Prince of Carignano, son of Vittorio Amedeo and Maria Vittoria Francesca di Savoia, who married Princess Christine Henriette di Hesse-Rheinfels-Rotenburg in 1740. Their first son Vittorio Amedeo II di Savoia-Carignano, the future 5th Prince of Carignano, married Marie Josephe de Lorraine-Lambesc-Brionne in 1768 in Oulx, in the High Susa Valley. They had one son, Carlo Emanuele (1780-1800), who inherited the title of Prince of Carignano.
