comprising a pencil draft for his setting of Shelley's 'The Triumph of Life', notated in short score on up to seven staves per page, with words for tenor ("[And saw like clouds] upon the thunder blast"), and parts for clarinets and bass with many deletions, revisions and alterations, inscribed at the top "Very Fast", comprising around twenty bars in all, 2 pages, oblong quarto, c.25 x 37.5cm, 10-stave paper, cut down from a larger sheet; the photograph of Tippett by Axel Poignant of London, 13.7 x 8.7cm, with a letter sent from Tippett's publishers Schott & Co of London (20 December 1982), enclosing the manuscript and explaining "He has just completed this, after three years work"
