Description

nobility: she, wearing lace-trimmed dress, pearl necklace with diamond pendants and aigrette in her upswept hair; he, with moustache, wearing uniform with foliate motif frogging, four medals and a breast star en grisaille against a green and blue background respectively, both signed on the obverse and dated L(ouise) Steele 1909, gold frames, set in rectangular green leather travelling cases ovals, 71mm. (2 3/4in.) and 66mm. (2 9/26in.) high (2) Footnote: Louise Steele worked from Notting Hill Gate, London, most of her known works were enamelled on gold. The present lot shows her working at a much later date in a very different style, presumably inspired by photography. The Nobleman depicted may be Franz Joseph of Austria (1830-1916).
