Notes

Rains was born in England and moved to Canada in 1955. Before choosing to paint exclusively, Rains was a sculptor and studied architecture. His still life paintings have a timeless, ethereal quality. The viewer is drawn to the subject which has been thrust against an almost impenetrable black background.
