Wissmann published his diaries partly because they illustrated 'the terrors incidental to the slave-hunt and to the transport of the unfortunate human chattels....' They include several references to Stanley. Hosken p. 210; together with Wilhelm Junker Travels in Africa during the Years 1875-1878 (London, 1890), Carl Peters New Light on Dark Africa (London, 1891), and T.E. Besolow From the Darkness of Africa to the Light of America (Boston, 1891), in original cloth, also Alfred Aylward The Transvaal of Today (London, 1878), and William Taylor The Flaming Torch in Darkest Africa (New York, 1898, introduction by Henry M.
