Item Overview

Description

MARCEL JEANJEAN (1893-1973)
Fête Aérienne Angers.
Whereas Armand gave the passerby but a single example of 'What you're going to see' at the Angers air festival (see No. 144), Jeanjean lays out an entire cartoonish infopanel of nine tantalizing lithographic tidbits, including the impressive public address system and the mysterious wing-walker, 'Melle X.' Jeanjean made a name for himself as an illustrator of aviation stories during the early-20th century. He also founded La Jeunesse Nouvelle, one of the first French youth magazines with a focus on education. A pilot himself during World War I, Jeanjean's work is notable because it illustrates the early days of aviation. His most famous work is 'Sous les Cocardes,' a collection of images revolving around the activities of a single squadron.
