Notes

Maria Theresia Van Thielen was the daughter of the accomplished still life painter Jan Philips van Thielen, of whose style the present lot is deeply reminiscent (see, for example, the painting offered New York, Christie's, 23 January 2004, lot 37). All three of Jan Philips van Thielen's daughters became still life painters and Maria Theresia appears to have been the most active and well known, becoming a master in the Antwerp guild of St. Luke in 1665.
