Mark Catesby (English 1683-1749). The Natural History of Carolina, Florida, & the Bahama Islands. Published London in 3 editions, 1731, 1750 1771. Hand Coloured etched plates. This is the first and most important natural History ever published on America. It is a fundamental work encompassing the birds, flowers, reptiles, mammals, Fish, Amphibians, moths, butterlies, and other insects. After his death in 1749, George Edwards republished & revised his 1731 edition in 1754. A third edition was published in 1771 & continued beyond 1812. This great work is considered to be the most important colourplate book ever published on America. john James Audubon was inspired to produce his Birds of America after studying Catesbys great work but with his birds drawn life size. This edition is published in Glicee in oversize to prevent confusion with the original. It uses only the finest archival paper and inks. It is printed in the highest definition printing available today.
