MARK LANGDON HILL (1772-1842). Maine merchant and shipbuilder; US Representative from Massachusetts (1819-21) and Maine (1821-23). ALS as congressman from Maine, 1p with integral leaf, 8"x10", Washington, DC, Feb 11, 1822 To War of 1812 hero Commodore DAVID PORTER (1780-1843) in Washington where he was a member of the Board of Navy Commissioners at the time. Hill requests that he respond to inquiry in enclosed letter [not present] "from Mr. Quinnman a respectable Magistrate, who wishes to serve the interest of one of his poor neighbors..." Hill asks that the results of his findings be "returned to me with the information asked for, you will confer a favor on your friend..." Darkly penned and signed. Address panel penned in his hand. Seal remnants present. Seal tear with paper loss at left margin of no affect to text; light general toning; else near Fine. Est: $60-120
