THE PROPERTY OF A PRIVATE EUROPEAN COLLECTOR

Noting that this is a characteristic work of Marten van Valckenborch's late style, Alexander Wied has suggested that the 'L VV' monogram may have been added by another hand, but early in the picture's history (loc. cit.).
