Description

Mary Cottenham Yeats (1863-1947) A Seaside Stroll Watercolour, 30x 24.5cm (12 x 9.75) Signed with monogram Mary Cottenham White (known to all as Cottie) was a fellow art student of Jack B. Yeats in London and they got married in 1894. Although they lived in Devon they came over to Ireland often and both contributed designs to the Dun Emer Guild the best known of which were the banners for the Cathedral in Loughrea. Similar images to this one were reproduced in print format by the Cuala Press, best known of which was the illustration to John Todhunters verse 'O, wind, O mighty melancholy wind'. Lily Yeats executed a number of her designs for embroidery
