Ink and color on paper. Japan, 1st half 19th century

A strong Loquat (biwa) branch with twigs and fruit is growing over the center of the depiction, The painting is focused on the contrast created with the delicate tiny bird that is perching on a twig. The bird is masterly rendered with light blue strokes for the head, and the red brown hues for the chest. Keibun was an artist deriving from the Shijo school and a half-brother of its founder Goshun. Signed to the lower right KEIBUN 景文 , and red seal KEIBUN. Brocade mounting, bone rollers, good condition.

PAINTING 116 x 27,6 CM, SCROLL197,5 x 40,2 CM

Expertise: Wolfmar Zacken

From a German private collection

Signatur rechts unten KEIBUN 景文 und rotes Siegel KEIBUN. Brokatmontierung, beinerne Roller, guter Zustand.
